Gandharva community iconic in Nepali art, culture: Culture Minister Adhikari

Lekhnath : Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari today recognized the special role the backward Gandharva community has played in Nepali art and culture. It has also made Pokhara known to many, he argued.
The Minister was saying it while inaugurating a newly constructed Gandharva museum at Batulechaur in Pokhara-13, Kaski. He stressed the need for establishing an academy to develop the Gandharva’s culture and art.
On the occasion, Gandaki Province Assembly member Krishna Thapa praised Pokhara as being rich not only in tourism but also in art and culture.
Other speakers including the ward chair Jiban Prasad Acharya, chair of the late Jhalakman Gandharva Statue Construction Committee Tara Prasad Timilsina, chair of the Himalayan Club Mohan Bahadur Thapa, chair of the Nepal Gandharva Community Development Centre Bhoj Bahadur Gayak, vice chair Dinesh Gayak and advisor Bhim Bahadur Gayak emphasised priorities on art and culture to make tourism year a success.
The museum houses various types of books, musical instruments and other materials featuring art and culture of the Gandharva community.
