Efforts have been taken ahead to declare Ram Prasad Rai, freedom fighter of epochal 1950 (2007 BS) revolution, a national luminary.
The Ram Prasad Rai Memorial Foundation has called for the declaration since long. Amidst a programme to mark the 111 birth anniversary of Rai on Sunday, Minister for Health and Population Bhanubhakta Dhakal pledged his efforts to acknowledge the unprecedented contributions of Rai against the Rana regime by leading the liberation army.
Rai was the frontline revolutionary leader from Bhojpur. On the occasion, former minister Pradeep Nepal called for he government to accord due honour to freedom fighter Rai.
Foundation’s acting chair Pasang Dorcha Sherpa said there is no option before the government but to declare Rai as a national luminary since the country’s current achievements are also associated to the dream of Rai.
Also speaking on the occasion, writer and researcher Bhogiraj Chamling presented bases for declaring Rai as a national luminary.
