Four years pass by, Banke flood survivors still waiting for relief
Banke : More than 1,000 households beyond the Rapti River, who suffered worst during the floods four years back, have been waiting desperately for relief. But, the slow process of government service has waned their hope.
The flood victims struggle committee’s chairman Jagdish Bahadur Singh informed that although the Ministry of Urban Development had released the amount under the special package amount to be provided to the flood victims of 2071, the Urban Development and Building Division has not taken initiative to distribute the amount.
The Ministry had decided to provide Rs 300 thousand to the household with land, and Rs 375 thousand to those not having land. Urban Development and Building Division had maintained the record that as many as 1652 families were suffered from the floods 2071.
The Division engineer Sunil Kumar Thakur however shared that although the relief amount was to be distributed in three tranches, the amount for the second tranche was not received from the Ministry.
He even said that as the flood victims did not approach for the second round of the tranche, nearly 280 million was returned to the Ministry. In the 2071 floods, then Holiya, Betahani, Gangapur, Mahehiya, Phattepur areas were inundated. (RSS)
