Mysterious plant in Sindhupalchowk known to be Horsefeldia Kingii
Chautara : The plant locally known as ‘Rambuwa’ or Ramuwa, that had left astounding the locals in Sindhupalchowk district has been found to be Horsefeldia Kingii( scientific name).
The mysterious plants which grows upto 20 metres were first identified at Ghumsunge Puchar Community Forest at Bafeli Rural Muncipality-3 in May this year. The sample of fruit of this plant was sent to the Department of Plant Resources at the Ministry of Forest and Environment.
According to the Department of Resources, the plant was identified to belong to Myristicaceae family. Botanist Narendra Parashar shared that the plants were called Raktamul in Assamese language.
There are around 80-90 such plants in the Forest, according to the Chairperson of the Forest User Group Committee, Dal Bahadur Thapa.
The fruits in the plants were a favorite foods to birds and monkeys while consumption of these fruits by humane exceeding in more than two numbers would result in nauseas and headache.
Division Forest Office, Sindhupalchowk was planning to produce the plants at nursery of the Pataleban from this year as this wild plant was not toxic was edible for carnivorous animals, shared, Assistant Officer at Division Forest Office, Sindhupalchowk , Tularam Ghimire.
Botanist Parashar informed that further research on the plant and its blood-like latex would be conducted as he said it could be used as a raw material for manufacturing medicines.
