Media’s role important for development: VP Pun
Kathmandu : Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun has said media could an important role to lead the country on the way to development.
While inaugurating the 6th national congress of Federation of Nepalese Indigenous Journalists in the capital city today, VP Pun added the media had incomparable role in socio-political change in the country.
According to him, stronger media helps strengthen democracy.
On a different note, he said the journalists were compelled to change their profession and go abroad due to financial reason which the government should pay heed to.
Speaking in the same programme, Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology Gokul Banskota complained that media sector has witnessed irresponsibility in the recent days, so FNJ and other concerned bodies should act on making it responsible and decent.
FONIJ Chair Danda Gurung said the Federation was working out for the professional development of media persons representing the indigenous community.
Over 300 delegates are attending the Congress. It concludes Saturday.
